Hrastovec ponds are located on the northern part of the forested hilly Hrastovenjak plateau on the surface of 4.2 ha. They originally belonged to Count Herberstein, who also owned the nearby lake Komarnik. The area is an important habitat of endangered plant and animal species; since 1992 it has been protected as a natural monument.
